For a very long time, Alvi Pariwar Foundation has been carrying out a lot of initiatives for the upliftment of the underprivileged section of the society. Talking about this medical camp, an official spokesperson says, “Alvi Pariwar Foundation has organized several free medical camps in the past. To start this year on a positive note and help those who needed medical attention, we decided to organize a medical camp on the first day of this year, that is, on 1st January. More than 450 people attended this camp and availed of the medical tests and medicines we were providing free of cost. The blessings we have received from the patients have encouraged us to organize these medical camps more frequently.”

Abhishek Soni from Madhya Pradesh, won the Men’s full marathon and Sheilah Jepkorir won the women’s full marathon at the 12th edition of the event here today. The Freshworks Chennai Marathon 2024 powered by Chennai Runners saw over 20,000 enthusiastic runners participating across categories. This sea of runners were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd that had gathered at various points along the route of the marathon early this morning from 3.30 am onwards.

The full marathon and twenty miler both started from Napier bridge today morning at 4 am and was flagged off by Dr. Jayanth Murali IPS (Retd)  The Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, Mr. Sandeep Rai Rathore, IPS flagged off the 10 km run. Dr C Sylendra Babu IPS, flagged off the 10 k, Wheelchair runners. Mrs C Latha, Secretary Tamil Athletic Association, Joint Secretary Athletics Federation of India was also present.

A total of Rs. 20,00,000/- (Twenty Lakhs Only) was distributed as prize money this year to the winners in various categories. The 12th edition of the marathon comprised of runners who were professionals, passionate runners, teams from various corporates across Chennai, several important dignitaries from the corporate world and citizens participating for the first time ever. This year the Freshworks Chennai Marathon saw participation of over 35% women runners. The marathon also had runners who were visually impaired, blade runners, and wheelchair runners.

In its 12th edition, the Freshworks Chennai Marathon 2024, powered by Chennai Runners, the largest running event in Chennai and the second-largest marathon in India, comprised of four events for men and women including, a Full Marathon (42.195 Km) – the flagship race of the event, the Perfect 20 Miler (32.186 Km), the Half Marathon (21.097 Km) and the 10 Km Run.

Like the previous edition, this year the Freshworks Chennai Marathon 2024 powered by Chennai Runners focused on increasing awareness of Type 1 diabetics and on raising funds for people with insulin needs.

Mission Objective with POEM

RSEM is a module to test the effectiveness of Tantalum (Ta) coating for radiation shielding in space. Satellite builders today are dependent on radiation-hardened electronic components which has 60-90 weeks lead time and also 10x the cost of nonhardened components. The coating developed by TakeMe2Space would hence help satellite builders to reduce cost of the electronics and faster development cycles. TakeMe2Space is excited to partner with ISRO to test our coating. ISRO’s POEM is fast and most cost-effective platform that enables start-ups to test & validate space ideas. TakeMe2Space is using this opportunity to validate if the coating works in vacuum of space and measure the coating-thickness to radiation-protection property.

Advantages of Radiation Shielding

With TakeMe2Space’s proprietary recipe to develop the thick and dense coating of Tantalum on Aluminium, it has direct impact on the following sectors:

  • Satellite builders can coat the chassis and extend the mission lifetime of their satellites.
  • STEM students and universities who are building experimental space missions have tight budgets, hence a radiation shielding coating would be the most effective way to build a satellite and yet aim for a longer mission lifespan.

Based on the data received from the POEM mission, TakeMe2Space is further working towards developing various Tantalum tapes which can just be pasted on the satellite chassis for the protection. This would make it easier for satellite builders to just apply tape to the chassis and enable radiation protection.
